Kiewit to renew tracks on Blue Line in Chicago

On 14th December 2022, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) awarded Kiewit Infrastructure a contract worth €99 million (US$105 million) covering the first phase of track renewals on the Forest Park branch of the metro network’s Blue Line. The first phase includes the reconstruction of the trackbed between the UIC-Halsted and Illinois Medical District stations, which runs on the median strip of the I-290 Expressway, as well as accessibility improvements at Racine station which will be carried out under a separate contract. The reconstruction of further sections of the Forest Park branch will be carried out in several phases as funding becomes available.
