On 13th December 2022, the city council of Rio de Janeiro appointed engineering consultancy Imtraff to carry out a study on a new light rail transit (LRT) line in the city. Under the tendering process, Imtraff submitted the best bid of EUR 64,000 (BRL 360,100) and negotiated value of EUR 46,000. The main objective of the contract is to carry out an updated study of passenger demand and the impact plan on the road system to implement the LRT line in the South Zone. According to the city’s projection, works are to start in 2023 and the line should be operational in 2025.
