The city of Rome has awarded a construction contract for the extension of metro Line C to a consortium led by Webuild via the metro authority Roma Metropolitane. The €2 billion contract includes the construction of the 4 km long T2 section from Piazza Venezia to Clodio-Mazzini with intermediate stations at Chiesa Nuova, San Pietro and Ottaviano, where it will be possible to transfer to Line A. Construction work is scheduled to begin in January 2026. Webuild, whose share of the contract amounts to €673 million, will execute the contract together with Vianini Lavori. The section will run 25 m below the River Tiber, with the new San Pietro station being the lowest point at 48 m.
