UZ orders another 10,000 t of rails from Voestalpine

Ukrainian state railway UZ has signed another supply contract with Voestalpine Rail Technology for 10,000 t of rails to enable basic repairs on an additional 80 km of line. In April 2025, UZ had already signed a contract for 36,000 t of rails. The total volume of rail deliveries thus amounts to around 46,000 t, which will enable the construction and repair of 358 km of track. The new tranche is scheduled to arrive after completion of the main deliveries from May 2026 onwards. The procurement is being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In addition, in January 2025, UZ received 1,083 t of rails from French manufacturer Saarstahl Rail as part of a separate supply contract for a total of 19,000 t.
