The International Union of Railways (UIC) has published its second Global Rail Sustainability Report for the rail sector. This report, which builds on the first report from 2022, describes the progress the rail sector is making worldwide in implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the 2030 Agenda. The report highlights that rail continues to be the most sustainable form of motorised transport and plays an important role in providing safe, affordable and accessible transport systems for all. It includes updated performance indicators from the Rail Sustainability Index (RSi), which tracks the efforts of railway companies in areas such as energy efficiency, emission reduction, and sustainable practices.
