The International Union of Railways (UIC) has elected Yuji Fukasawa, President and CEO of JR East since 2018, as its Chair for the 2026/2027 term. The election took place at the 107th General Assembly in Warsaw on 11th December 2025. Fukasawa will take office on 1st January 2026, succeeding Alain Beroud. At the same time, the UIC Regional Assembly Europe confirmed Stefano Antonio Donnarumma as Head of the UIC Region Europe for the same period. Donnarumma, Chair of the Board and Director General of Italian state railway FSI since June 2024, moved to FSI from investment bank Equita.
