Swedish transport administration Trafikverket has signed a contract with Plasser Scandinavia and Robel for three new maintenance trains, including ten years of vehicle maintenance, with a total value of around EUR 92 million (SEK 1 billion). The contract also includes an option for two additional trains. Deliveries are scheduled for 2030, 2032 and 2033, with the optional trains to be delivered by 2038 at the latest. The trains will be equipped with ETCS for ERTMS lines, pantographs and combustion engines. The contract follows several years of testing with a leased maintenance train, the lease for which is now being extended to build up expertise until the company's own vehicles are available. The approximately 70 m long trains combine a locomotive with storage and work wagons, enabling protected work on the track area while transport services continue on neighbouring tracks and reducing heavy lifting operations. The 2026-2037 national plan allocates a total of around EUR 46 billion for railway investment and maintenance.
