Work has begun on track construction in the Jonava district of Lithuania on the 8.8 km section between Sveicarija and Zeimia of the new Rail Baltica cross-border high-speed rail (HSR) line. The work is being carried out by a joint venture (JV) between Leonhard Weiss Germany and its Estonian subsidiary Leonhard Weiss OÜ on behalf of Lithuanian infrastructure operator LTG Infra. The contract worth EUR 13.9 million was awarded at the beginning of 2025. For this section, 86,200 t of ballast, 29,500 concrete sleepers and 42 km of rail in 25 m long sections will be installed. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2025. At the same time, work is underway on the 77 km railway embankment and the construction of structures on the Kaunas – Panevėžys section. By the end of 2025, 114 km of the Lithuanian section of Rail Baltica is expected to be under construction, including what will be Lithuania's longest railway bridge over the Neris River. In Estonia, work is currently underway on 105 km, while in Latvia, construction is concentrated on the southern section between Riga and the Lithuanian border.
