The Hafeet Rail joint venture (JV) has awarded Systra the project management and engineering consultancy for the construction of the approximately 300 km railway line between Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the port of Sohar in Oman. As part of the contract, Systra will manage and supervise the implementation of the project. The new Abu Dhabi – Sohar line is being developed by Hafeet Rail, consisting of Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and the UAE sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, and will be connected to Etihad's existing rail network. The line will be designed for both passenger rail transport and rail freight transport. In April 2024, Hafeet Rail awarded three contracts for the construction of the line, and Progress Rail was awarded a contract to supply new heavy-duty freight locomotives.
