The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRCL) has appointed engineering and consulting firm Systra as general consultant for the construction of the new metro network in Visakhapatnam. The contract covers the overall coordination of planning, tendering, contract management, construction supervision as well as start of operations. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to start in October 2025. The metro project will be implemented in several phases. The first phase comprises three lines to relieve urban congestion, while the second phase involves an extension to the new Bhogapuram Airport.
