The Russian state railway RZD and the Chinese state railway CR have agreed on strategic cooperation, which was signed in May 2024 during Russian President Putin's visit to China. RZD and CR have expressed their common interests in the development of international transport corridors, in particular within the framework of the Chinese Belt & Road Initiative. They plan to further develop existing border crossings and their access routes, including the construction of a second standard gauge railway between Zabaikalsk and Manzhouli. In addition, the state railways will review the regulations for container transport between China and Europe and plan to expand the transport of agricultural products in refrigerated containers.
