Czech infrastructure manager SZ has awarded a consortium of Strabag Rail, Eurovia and Porr the contract to build the first section of the Brno – Prerov line. The 10 km section Nezamyslice – Kojetin will be modernised for €267.9 million. Construction work is scheduled to begin in May 2025 and be completed by the end of 2028. The plans include a 744 m tunnel, eight bridges, a second track and an increase in the maximum speed of the trains from 100 to 200 km/h. There will be two disabled-accessible stops and a bus station, as well as noise barriers with a total length of 2,900 m. The section of the future high-speed rail (HSR) line Prague – Brno – Ostrava will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) and the GSM-R radio system. The European Union is co-financing the construction via the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding programme.
