Stortinget approves funding for Arna – Stanghelle FAS project

The Norwegian Parliament Stortinget has approved funding for the combined rail and road construction project Arna – Stanghelle (FAS). The costs are estimated at around €3.6 billion (NOK 41.2 billion) at 2025 price levels, of which €365 million will be covered by toll revenues. The project involves the construction of the new E16 expressway and the parallel Vossebanen railway line on a 30 km section between Arna and Stanghelle. The project is intended to make rail and road transport between Oslo and Bergen safer and faster, with travel times on the railway section being reduced by around 40 minutes. Initial preparatory work is already underway, with completion currently scheduled for 2036.
