According to Norwegian infrastructure operator Bane NOR, the completion of the electrification work on the Trønder- and Meråkerbanen will be delayed until December 2025. Originally, the 120 km line from Trondheim to Stjørdal and on to the Swedish border at Storlien was supposed to be ready for electric train operation earlier. However, the project encountered several challenges, including local landslides and a shortage of skilled labour. In order to carry out the remaining work more efficiently, train services on the Meråkerbanen will be suspended from 15th August 2024 until 1st February 2025. During this time, a replacement bus service will be set up between Trondheim and Storlien. Once train services resume in February 2025, they will run normally until the new timetable comes into operation in December 2025. In addition to electrification, maintenance work will also be carried out on the Meråkerbanen, including the replacement of culverts and rails as well as maintenance work on bridges.
