On 26th May 2024, the southern section of the Guangzhou – Foshan circular railway line was put into operation. This runs from Panyu in Guangzhou Nan to Foshan Xi. The line is used in conjunction with the Guangzhou – Foshan – Zhaoqing intercity railway line, on which trains travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h. Construction work on the southern section began in November 2013 and was completed in 2020, but the start of operations was delayed.
