Unife has elected Martin Sion, CEO of Alstom, as its new Chair at its 35th General Assembly in Brussels. He succeeds Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, who led the association for three years. The two-day conference focused on how the European railway supply industry can boost its competitiveness against global rivals. Members called above all for the removal of existing regulations rather than new ones, a more proactive EU export strategy and greater harmonisation of rules, as national fragmentation continues to hamper the single market. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the European Commission (EC), the European Railway Agency (ERA) and Europe’s Rail. In addition, Unife admitted three new full members and the Polish Chamber of Railways as an associate member.
