Siemens and Railway Robotics develop inspection robot

Siemens Mobility and Norwegian company Railway Robotics have unveiled Railchap, a new inspection robot for rails. The robot is designed to increase accuracy and significantly reduce the time required for switch inspections in particular. According to the developers, maintenance is six times faster and 80% more cost-efficient than manual inspection. The prototype weighs 50-60 kg depending on the equipment, can travel autonomously at speeds of up to 20 km/h, and can also be controlled remotely. The Railchap was presented at the Campus Nyland test and training centre in Oslo.
