Railway company Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) has awarded a consortium consisting of CAF, Electrans, and Hitachi Rail a contract to implement the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 1 across its entire network. The contract worth EUR 30 million has a completion period of 54 months. Hitachi Rail will design, supply, and put into operation the trackside equipment and the ERTMS control centre, replacing the old FAP system. CAF will integrate the ERTMS on-board system into 32 electric multiple units (EMU) of the 71, 81, 91, and 1100 series and will be responsible for certification and regulatory compliance.
