The city of Rome has reached an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport on the financing of the next phases of metro line C. On 12th February 2025, an agreement was signed to provide €4 billion to extend line C from Piazza Venezia to Clodio-Mazzini and Farnesina. In addition, funds will be made available for ongoing works between San Giovanni, Colosseo and Piazza Venezia. At the same time, the city is pressing ahead with the expansion of its light rail transit (LRT) network. Construction of the LRT line from Ponte Mammolo to Palmiro Togliatti main station is scheduled to begin on 3rd March 2025. Feasibility studies for five new LRT lines were also approved by the end of January 2025, including connections from Tiburtina to Ponte Mammolo and from Anagnina to Torre Angela. The city plans to apply to the Ministry of Transport for funding for the expansion programme here too.
