The Spanish Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport Mitma to put out to tender the renewal of the 23.5 km existing broad-gauge line Guillarei – Redondela in the province of Pontevedra via infrastructure manager Adif. The project is intended to give new impetus to the Atlantic corridor in Galicia and the connection with Portugal. The contract with a net value of €51.2 million includes the installation of new sleepers, ballast, and more efficient switches, the adaptation of the clearance gauge of the four tunnels, which will also receive new protection and safety systems. In preparation for the subsequent electrification with 25 kV instead of the previous 3 kV power supply, overhead line mast anchoring walls are to be erected. A new, 82 m long viaduct, the modernisation of 20 underpasses, the reinforcement of embankments and cuttings, and the conversion of the platforms at Louredo-Valos station complete the scope of the contract.
