RB Rail, the joint venture developing the major Rail Baltica project in the Baltic States, has received additional funding of €1.2 billion from the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding programme. Together with additional funding from the three Baltic states, the latest financing package totals €1.5 billion. The CEF financing agreement is to be signed by RB Rail and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Agency Cinea in the fourth quarter of 2024. It complements the €2.6 billion funding already secured from the CEF and the three Baltic states, with the EU providing 85% of the current project funding. The latest package will be split into an allocation of €370 million for work in Estonia, €346 million to support activities in Latvia, and €458 million for work in Lithuania. In particular, the money will support up to 55 km of main line work in Estonia and on 114 km of the planned line in Latvia. It will also fund the design work for the project's new electrification system. Around 15% of the 870 km main line is expected to be under construction by the end of 2024.
