On 24th September 2025, King Mohammed VI launched a programme worth around EUR 1.9 billion (MAD 20 billion) to expand the railway infrastructure in the Casablanca metropolitan area as part of a national mobility plan. The projects include the construction of three new major stations: Casablanca-Sud in the Hay Hassani district, Grand Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane and Mohammed V Airport, for a total of EUR 136 million. As part of the construction of the 92 km suburban rail network, with start of operations in 2030, ten additional stations will be built within 20 months at a cost of EUR 59 million. Other projects include the modernisation of five existing stations, the construction of 260 km of new railway lines, 50 bridges, two technical centres and five workshops. In addition, an Aero-Express service will be introduced in regional passenger rail transport, which will connect Casablanca Port station with the airport every 15 minutes. The service will be operated by 48 electric multiple units (EMU) from manufacturer Hyundai Rotem, which will be procured for EUR 660 million.
