The Indian city of Pune is pressing ahead with the extension of its metro network in order to improve transport connections and reduce congestion. The Pune Municipal Corporation has been contracted to prepare a detailed project report for the extension of the metro from Kharadi to Pune International Airport. The extension will be integrated into the existing metro corridor and will improve connectivity between Khadakwasla and the airport. Kharadi is to be developed into a multimodal transport hub to facilitate the connection of various metro corridors. A new metro corridor from Katraj to Hinjawadi is also planned to support urban expansion and improve transport efficiency. A proposed double-deck flyover will ease congestion on the Vanaz – Chandani Chowk section.
