Lithuania's Minister of Transport Marius Skuodis, together with representatives of the state railway group LTG and infrastructure operator LTG Infra, has visited the world's first noise barrier with integrated solar cells in Juodšiliai near Vilnius. The 22.2 kW solar system along the Kyviškes – Vaiciunai railway line is expected to generate up to 14 MWh of electricity per year. The pilot project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of vertical bifacial solar modules that both reduce noise and generate electricity. The initial interim results have already exceeded LTG Infra's expectations. The system is expected to save an estimated 420 t of CO2 over its lifetime. The final results are expected in 2025.
