Adif AV has awarded three contracts for the design of the Alar del Rey – Reinosa section of the high-speed rail (HSR) line Palencia – Santander. The contracts include the design of the 44.4 km double-track standard-gauge line and a 7 km single-track Aguilar de Campoo bypass. The design contract for the first 14 km section between Alar del Rey and Aguilar de Campoo was awarded to a consortium consisting of Centro de Estudios de Materiales y Control de Obras, Consultrans, and Systra. The design of the second 11.5 km section from Aguilar de Campoo to Mataporquera, including the Aguilar de Campoo bypass, has been awarded to a consortium of WSP Spain and TRN Táryet. The 18.9 km third section between Mataporquera and Reinosa will be designed by a consortium of TPF Getinsa Euroestudios and Geocontrol. The total value of the design contracts is €15.2 million, followed by the tender for the construction of the remaining section of the HSR line from Alar del Rey to Reinosa station, which is expected to cost €800 million. Together with the five sections between Palencia and Alar del Rey that are already under construction and the planning for the remaining sections, Adif is investing €1.7 billion in the Palencia – Santander HSR line.
