Traffic Control Technology (TCT) and MTR Corp have launched a pilot project that uses drones to inspect stations, tracks and buildings, supported by AI and modern data analysis. The aim is to increase the efficiency of railway maintenance. The project is part of the Hong Kong government's Low-altitude Economy pilot programme to utilise airspace below 1,000 m economically. TCT is providing drone technology and a management system, while MTR is contributing rail operating experience. A new research centre for low-altitude flight operations was opened at the Hong Kong Science Park on 1st April 2025.
