On 25th July 2024, the Israeli parliament approved plans for the construction of a 150 km metro network in the greater Tel Aviv area. The network will comprise three lines with a total of 109 underground stations and four depots and include seven transfer hubs to the light rail transit network (LRT network), buses, and long-distance transport. The planned project costs amount to €37.3 billion (ILS 150 billion), although the financing of the project has not yet been finalised. A completion date has not yet been announced, but it is expected that the metros on the first line will go into operation in the early 2040s.
