The first section of metro line 2 in Lima was opened on 21st December 2023. It runs 5 km completely underground from Evitamiento to Mercado Santa Anita with five stations. This will reduce the journey time by public transport from 30 minutes to 7 minutes. The line was built by Metro de Lima Línea 2 as part of a concession for design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance awarded in 2014. The consortium consists of Iridium, Dragados, FCC, Webuild, Cosapi, Hitachi Rail STS, and Hitachi Rail Italy. The Italian manufacturer Hitachi has already supplied 42 six-car metro trains.
