ONCF receives EUR 202 million loan from KfW for network expansion in Casablanca

Moroccan state railway ONCF has received a loan of EUR 202 million from the German KfW Bank to modernise the railway network in the greater Casablanca area. The aim is to improve access to jobs and important services by strengthening public transport and increasing capacity on the regional ONCF network. The project involves the modernisation of around 73 km of existing lines, including electrification and renewal of the signalling and safety systems, on the Casablanca – Zenata/Mohammedia corridor in the east and the Casablanca – Nouaceur/Bouskoura corridor in the south. In June 2025, the World Bank had already approved a loan of EUR 304 million for the Inter-Metropolitan Improvement Programme (SIR), which aims to upgrade the suburban rail lines in Casablanca.
