ÖBB successfully completes test phase on Koralmbahn line

Austrian state railway ÖBB has successfully completed the test phase of the new Koralmbahn railway line between Graz and Klagenfurt. Over the past few weeks, highly qualified specialists have tested the line at speeds of up to 250 km/h using various locomotives, measuring cars and Railjet push-pull trains. The new connection will enable a journey time of 45 minutes in the future. According to ÖBB Infrastruktur, the test results have confirmed the calculations and models in real-life operation. The line is scheduled to start operating on 14th December 2025. Before that, official approval procedures and training for ÖBB staff still need to be completed. The new regular timetable for passenger services will be finalised in summer 2025 and presented in September 2025. Freight transport on the Koralmbahn line is scheduled to start in October 2025. Further safety exercises will take place before the start of operations.
