The private railway infrastructure company Euregio Verkehrsschienennetz (EVS) has received a funding decision worth €42.8 million from the Ministry of Transport of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The funds are now available for the long-announced electrification of the 47 km long Euregio railway in the Aachen area. The federal government is covering 90% of the costs, the state 5% and EVS a further €2 million, also 5%. The work on the Euregiobahn line from Herzogenrath via Alsdorf to Stolberg is to be put out to tender immediately, although it is not yet clear when the work will begin.
