Bulgarian infrastructure operator NRIC has completed a preliminary study for the construction of a new 71 km electrified line from Jambol via Elhovo and Lesovo to the Turkish border. The project is part of the European Union's Trans-European Transport (TEN-T) Network and provides for a line speed of 160 km/h for passenger rail transport and 120 km/h for rail freight transport. The line is divided into a 39 km section between Jambol and Elhovo, which mainly follows existing sections, and a 32 km section between Elhovo, Lesovo and the border, which is to be newly built. Six stops and three stations are planned. The construction period is estimated at six years. The preliminary planning, worth EUR 270,000 (BGN 525,800), is being financed 85% by the EU Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027.
