Operations on the City & South West Metro project section of the M1 North West & Bankstown line, which connects the north west of the city with the port and business district to Sydenham, started on 19th August 2024. The new section extends the existing M1 metro line by 15.5 km to 51.5 km and includes six new underground stations and new metro platforms at Central Station and Sydenham Station. A further 13 km of the M1 line will be added following the conversion of 10 existing stations on the T3 Bankstown line.
