Network Rail awards framework contracts for Scotland

On 13th August 2024, UK infrastructure operator Network Rail awarded five framework contracts for the Civils Framework in Scotland with a total value of up to €1.52 billion (GB£1.3 billion). The contracts have a term of five years and can be extended by three years, depending on performance. VolkerRail has been awarded a contract covering signalling, power, and communications work worth up to €175 million. Taziker will carry out general renewal projects, including preventive repairs and renewal of culverts. This includes metalwork and undercut protection works on the Findhorn viaduct on the Aberdeen – Inverness line in 2027. Story and AmcoGiffen will carry out major renewal work on structures such as tunnels, underpasses, and coastal defences. AmcoGiffen will inspect and repair the coastal defences between Kincardine and Torryburn, while Story will carry out an undercut protection programme on the Fillan viaduct on the West Highland Line. QTS will carry out geotechnical as well as drainage renewal and rehabilitation works to improve the condition of the assets. This will include earthworks and track drainage improvements near Cumbernauld and upgrades to the track drainage and other assets near Falkirk.
