On 10th December 2025, Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan appointed Claudiu-Marinel Mureșan as President of Romanian Railway Reform Authority ARF with the rank of State Secretary at the suggestion of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. The post had been vacant since the resignation of Mihai Barbu on 10th November 2025, following a corruption investigation. Mureșan has experience in the Senate and the private sector and was most recently Chair of the Board of Directors of Telecomunicații CFR. His priority tasks include the completion of the current awards for 23 electric locomotives and 12 hydrogen-powered multiple units (HMU), the implementation of the existing contracts with Alstom and Pesa for electric multiple units (EMU) and electric locomotives, as well as the more efficient updating of the public service obligations for 2026 under the CSP 2022-2032 and the consistent application of the competitively awarded public service contracts.
