MTR provides information on the status of projects in Hong Kong

The management of Hong Kong's public transport operator MTR recently provided information on current projects. MTR has started construction of the Tung Chung Line Extension and the Tuen Mun South Extension in mid-2023, which will extend the respective lines by 2.5 km and 2.4 km. Work is also underway on new stations in Kwu Tung on the East Rail Line, in Oyster Bay, and in Hung Shui Kiu on the Tuen Ma Line. In 2024, extensive construction work will be carried out on the eastern section of the Tung Chung Line Extension, including the realignment of the tracks and the installation of new switches for the new Tung Chung East station between Sunny Bay and Tung Chung. On the western section, a new tunnel is being built from Tung Chung to the new Tung Chung West station. The main works on the Tuen Mun South Extension include piling and foundation works along the Tuen Mun River for the new viaduct and A16 station. For the construction of the new station in Kwu Tung on the East Rail Line, extensive excavation work is being carried out in layers over the existing tunnels of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line to ensure the stability of the tunnel structures and normal train operations. The track layout in the Siu Ho Wan depot is being adapted as part of the preparatory work for Oyster Bay station. For the work at Hung Shui Kiu station on the Tuen Ma Line, the parapet walls of the existing viaduct are being cut into 140 segments and removed one by one.
