On 10th November 2022, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Czech government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on grant support for the construction of transport infrastructure. The EIB financial and technical support will be used to finance railway projects between 2023 and 2027 up to a maximum of €7 billion. The EIB and the Czech government have agreed to accelerate cooperation on the modernisation of the national railway network and to strengthen the role of railways in the national transport network. Under the MoU, the partners will work towards a model for EIB involvement in the modernisation of local railway networks. The EIB and the government will join forces to ensure the effective, efficient and timely preparation and implementation of railway infrastructure projects based on the national Unified Railway Framework, executed by the Ministries of Transport and Finance, through advisory support for project preparation and long-term financial support for project implementation.
