Czech infrastructure operator SZ has begun modernising the Brno – Prerov line, which will become part of the country's high-speed rail (HSR) network. Work started in Nezamyslice in the Olomouc region with the reconstruction and double-track expansion of the first 10 km to Kojetín. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2028. The line will allow speeds of up to 200 km/h. The measures include the construction of the 744 m Němčice tunnel and eight new bridges, as well as the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS). The total cost is approximately €313 million (CZK 7.8 billion), co-financed by the EU through the CEF funding programme. The work is being carried out by Strabag Rail, Eurovia CZ and Porr. The modernisation comprises five sections, with reconstruction of the Kojetín – Přerov section also set to begin in 2025.
