The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has earmarked around €1.16 billion (INR 109.6 billion) from a total budget of €4.27 billion for the expansion of the metro network in the 2025/26 budget. The focus is on accelerating the metro projects on lines 14, 13 and 10, as well as the expansion of line 5. According to MMRDA Chair Eknath Shinde, around 20 km of metro lines will be in operation by 2025, with a further 50 km in 2026. All current metro projects are scheduled for completion by 2027. The financing consists of €221.7 million in state sub-debts, loans of €2.37 billion, €780 million from land leases and development rights, and €351 million from the transport fund and project operations.
