The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Mitma) has announced investments of €400 million to modernise the railway network in Castilla-La Mancha. A key project is the Montoro bypass, an important part of the high-speed rail (HSR) network, which aims to reduce travel times between Jaén and Madrid. Currently, €455.6 million has been mobilised by infrastructure operator Adif for the improvement of the Madrid – Jaén line, of which €202 million for Castilla-La Mancha. Progress has been made on the Aranjuez – Alcázar de San Juan section, with investment in track renewal and safety systems. Other projects include the renewal of the Alcázar de San Juan – Manzanares line and the improvement of safety on the Manzanares – Ciudad Real – Puertollano line. In addition, investments are being made in the rolling motorway between Santa Cruz de Mudela and Andújar in order to shift freight volumes from road to rail.
