The Spanish Ministry of Transport has published a tender worth €38.6 million for the electrification of the 70 km section between Talayuela and Plasencia on the high-speed rail (HSR) line from Madrid via Extremadura to the Portuguese border. The plans include the installation of overhead lines, power connections and the construction of portals. In addition, switch disconnectors and their electric drives will be installed. The electrification is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 25% and greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 59%. The project is part of the expansion of the 437 km Madrid – Extremadura HSR line, which is part of the Atlantic Corridor.
