Ministry of Transport announces further unbundling for DB infrastructure division

According to the German Federal Ministry of Transport, the future direction of German state railway DB will remain within the integrated group in terms of restructuring the overall system. However, there will be further changes in the ongoing unbundling of the infrastructure division. This is intended to give the federal government, as the owner, more influence and control. In this context, the personnel structure of the group and its subsidiaries will also be reviewed. The government is intending to streamline the group as a whole. In addition, work is underway on an overall federal strategy for DB, which is to be presented in September 2025. Part of this future plan for DB has already been brought forward, as over €100 billion has been made available to invest in the maintenance, renovation and digitalisation of DB. Digitalisation is also supposed to contribute to improvements in punctuality.
