Ministry of Railways and Swiss Federal Council sign MoU for railway technology

On 29th October 2024, the Swiss Federal Council and the Indian Ministry of Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both countries have thus reaffirmed their intention to further expand cooperation in the railway sector. The Indian government is planning a major expansion and modernisation of its railway network and is therefore showing great interest in new technologies, modern rail vehicles and expertise in the construction and electrification of railway lines as well as in rail security systems. The signing of the MoU confirms the will of both countries to continue the existing exchange and to further deepen cooperation. This follows on from a first, temporary MoU from 2017, which led to the establishment of an Indo-Swiss working group. This group, consisting of representatives from the authorities and the railway industry, exchanged know-how, identified potential projects, and discussed existing challenges.
