Max Bögl completes test maglev line in Chengdu

Construction company Max Bögl and Chinese company Xinzhu Road & Bridge Machinery have completed the construction of a 3.5 km demonstration line for a magnetic levitation (maglev) line in Chengdu, China. The project also included the delivery of a maglev train and the associated train control technology for the project. The contract for the development of the maglev line with Transport System Bögl (TSB) was signed in 2018. The construction of the line required the transport of the track infrastructure for the elevated line in more than 650 containers from Germany to China as well as the successful putting into operation of the line with a maglev train built in Sengenthal, Germany, which was successfully demonstrated on the line. In April 2021, a maximum speed of 169 km/h was reached with the three-car vehicle and in April 2024 a speed of 181 km/h, a record for medium and low-speed maglev lines. The completion of the project was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement for further development between Max Bögl and the newly established Sichuan Development Maglev Technologies, a subsidiary of Sichuan Development Holding Group.
