LTG Infra introduces new track monitoring system to reduce costs

The Lithuanian infrastructure operator LTG Infra has introduced a new track condition monitoring system (GIPS), which is expected to reduce operating costs by €3 to 4 million. The International Railway Inspection and Services System (IRISSYS) GIPS system, developed by software company Erdman, enables proactive and predictable maintenance of railway infrastructure. The system visualises data from linear railway infrastructure and is being continuously developed to increase the number of monitored facilities and integrate additional functions such as artificial intelligence for monitoring. This should minimise human error and increase the safety of the railway infrastructure. To this end, the system will display the condition of the infrastructure in real time in a special application. By analysing the data, the system will assess and inform when and to what extent repairs are necessary to avoid breakdowns and train delays. This will also lead to considerable savings in maintenance costs.
