LDZ to modernise Riga – Lugaži line

Latvian state railway LDZ is planning to modernise the 166 km line from Riga to Lugaži and is preparing the tenders for the planning and construction work. The project includes the lines from Riga via Lugaži to the Estonian border. In the first quarter of 2025 (Q1/2025), the announcement of three open tenders for the modernisation of the infrastructure for passenger rail transport on the lines Riga – Liepaja and Riga – Lugaži is expected, with the latter being co-financed by the EU. The works are planned to be completed by March 2027. The works include demolition of existing platforms and construction of new, higher platforms, installation of equipment, and modernisation of access infrastructure. The works also include installation of CCTV and modernisation of signalling system.
