Kazakh state railway KTZ is planning to increase the throughput and handling capacities of more than 180 railway stations. The project is part of a programme to expand the capacity of the existing railway infrastructure. The measures are intended to meet the growing demand for passenger and freight transport as well as the increase in transit freight transport and the construction of new railway sections. Additional connecting tracks, receiving tracks and exit tracks are being built, existing tracks are being extended, and previously dismantled tracks are being rebuilt. Work has been underway since the beginning of 2024 to approve and register additional areas, including obtaining the relevant authorisations for planning and surveying work as well as opinions from the relevant authorities.
