The South Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is planning to support the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan with a feasibility study worth around €3.6 million (US$4 million) for a railway line to the Afghan border. The proposed 51 km line would run from Balkh in the Jaloliddin Balkhi district to Panji Poyon and is expected to require 28 bridges and 160 culverts. According to the Ministry of Transport, the project would improve rail access to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. According to the South Korean embassy, the project is to be fully realised within three years.
