The Moldovan government has discussed cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the modernisation of railway infrastructure and logistics. A report, compiled with Japanese support, was presented on transport flows, imports, exports and the demand for logistics services in Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. The focus was on shifting freight transport from road to rail in order to improve logistics chains and boost competitiveness. To this end, the parties examined short- and medium-term grant programmes for transport and logistics infrastructure in Moldova. In addition, a project to modernise the state railway CFM was discussed. This involves the provision of machinery, specialised vehicles and rolling stock for infrastructure maintenance.
