Investments of €6 billion in railway infrastructure

Turkey is planning to invest €6 billion in the expansion of its railway infrastructure and high-speed rail (HSR) networks by 2025. The funds will go to the Ministry of Transport, infrastructure manager TCDD and TCDD Tasimcilik, the operator of passenger rail transport and rail freight transport. Turkish manufacturer Türasas is receiving separate funding. The aim is to expand the railway network to 28,590 km by 2053, to electrify 90% of the lines, and to equip them with modern signalling technology. In addition, the share of renewable energies at TCDD is to be increased to 35%. Priority will be given to the Ankara – Izmir and Halkali – Kapikule lines, as well as the expansion of logistics centres and lines for cross-border rail freight transport.
